Chapter Charities

These are causes the chapter elects to support with rides to raise money to help the cause

The purpose of any HOG® Chapter is to promote motorcycling activities for the Harley Owners Group members.  We encourage a family oriented club that portrays a positive image of motorcycling.

To help promote a more positive image of motorcycles and bikers, the Daytona Beach Chapter of HOG supports two main "causes"  annually by hosting runs (rides)  to show support for these causes.  The support may involve the collection of food, toys or money - or sometimes just provide a much loved motorcycle parade or ride for Vets, homebound individuals or ill children who love the "bikers"!  Those two major causes annually are the Camp Boggy Creek, Ride for Children, and the Salvation Army Toys for Kids Fun Run.

Two other huge annual events in which we participate are Bike Week and Biketoberfest.  Daytona HOG members  assist the Harley-Davidson dealerships at information booths, parking and directing traffic and generally just telling people where to go. ;-)

You can look forward to a wonderful and exciting year with all its challenges. Please remember this is your chapter and needs your support and participation to make it the huge success we all know it is!

To learn a little more about the Salvation Army and Camp Boggy Creek, and why Daytona HOG supports such  worthy causes, read on.

Salvation Army.....and the Toys for Kids Fun Run

IDENTITY STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is an international Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible; its ministry is motivated by love for God and the needs of humanity.

MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.

SERVICES: The Salvation Army is dedicated to caring for the poor, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, loving the unlovable, and befriending the friendless. This dedication has produced an international network of helpful ministries.

Adult rehabilitation centers are among the most widely known of all Salvation Army services and comprise the largest resident substance abuse rehabilitation program in the United States. Individuals with identifiable and treatable needs go to these centers for help when they no longer are able to cope with their problems. There they receive adequate housing, nourishing meals, and necessary medical care, and they engage in work therapy, spiritual guidance, and skilled counseling in clean and wholesome surroundings. Residents may be referred or be remanded by the courts.

Donated material, such as furniture, appliances, or clothing, provides both needed work therapy and a source of revenue through the Army's thrift stores. More than 120 adult rehabilitation centers offer these programs in the United States.

Free temporary shelter is available to homeless men and women in severe financial need. Low-cost housing also is available to men and women living on pensions or social security.

The Salvation Army's programs are life-changing, and your continued support of them means that more people are reached every year, and more lives restored.

Camp Boggy Creek and the Ride for Children

Camp Boggy Creek is specifically designed for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of a "traditional" camp. Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays are transformed into just "kids." They have a chance to be with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone.

Camp Boggy Creek

Camp Boggy Creek camping experience is more than a fun-filled getaway. It helps children to better cope with the day-to-day challenges they face.

It also offers critical support to the parents, guardians and siblings of these amazing campers. Located on 232 acres of beautiful wooded land, it has 44 cracker style buildings including 16 camper cabins, dining hall, medical center, swim center, stable, little farm, sports and recreation center, arts and crafts building, creative center and theater.

Boggy Creek programs include week long summer sessions as well as family weekends in the fall and spring. Summer programs allow the child a week of fun, adventure and independence in a setting that provides complete medical care. Family weekends bring a camper's whole family to camp where parents can relax and find needed support among other families dealing with identical emotional and financial challenges. Brothers and sisters get to participate in the same fun-filled activities as their Boggy Creek camper.

The camp is specifically designed for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of a "traditional" camp. Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays are transformed into just "kids."  They have a chance to be with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone. Hugs are part of the daily dietary requirements at  Boggy Creek. The campers develop special relationships with each other and with their counselors.
