mr baconMarch 2008  winner = none other than.....DAYTONA!!!!  Way to go!!!

Next Traveling HOG -  May 18, Sunday...and Daytona will be the hosts, so we need some volunteers to help with the sign in, etc.  - it will be held at Dirty Harry's, downtown Daytona.

If you're going on a great vacation, business trip, ride, drive while we have Mr. Bacon, he wants to go with you!!!  He's a real camera hog, so you'll need to write a history and take photos!

  • Traveling HOG will now take place every two months.  Dates are all on the calendar, location and leave times will be added as plans are finalized.

  • Mr. Bacon has been all over the world and loves to travel with HOG members.  When your chapter has him, and if you have a great trip planned, take him along, write it up and take pictures (he's a real camera hog!!).

Mr. Bacon

The Traveling Hog Competition

The competition held every two months for the Traveling HOG, also known as Mr. Bacon,  mr bacon gets pretty fierce between the riders of the central Florida HOG chapters.  Mr. Bacon (being held by Daytona members who are in awe and in love with Mr. Bacon) is a highly prized award - is won purely by luck -- though having a larger number of riders at a meet does help gain more tickets....but the luck of the draw - as they say, "it only takes one winning ticket".

There will be a  ride every two months to bring home the bacon!  The more riders, the better the chance of winning!  If you keep Mr. Bacon the most during the year, you win a plaque.  This is an inter-chapter competition and it originated with the Daytona HOG Chapter.  The Daytona chapter will continue to be the overall administrator of the central Florida Traveling HOG program.  The rules to WIN are:

Rules as of January 2008

  1. The Traveling Hog competition will be run on a 12-month schedule and all competitions are scheduled for the year at the officers’ inter-chapter meeting each January.   Due to the size of the meeting room, it was voted on to limit attendance at the officers’ meeting to eight (8) officers (or other representatives) from each chapter. If you want to make it a ride, other members are welcome to enjoy their time in the other dining room.

  2. Traveling HOG is normally held at the hosting chapter’s dealership, unless another location is agreed upon by the hosting chapter and its dealership.

  3.  The Traveling HOG drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a 12:50 p.m. cut-off for sign-in. Beginning and ending times for the Traveling HOG event are at the discretion of the hosting chapter.

  4. The 50/50 drawing will be held in conjunction with the Traveling HOG drawing at 1:00 p.m.

  5. The existing Traveling Hog trophy (Mr. Bacon) will continue to be used, as will a plaque for the year end’s winner of who had the trophy the most.

  6. Additionally, a Log Book will be provided so that each winner of the trophy can record (written and pictures) the travels of Mr. Bacon.  As of June 2006, Lea, Editor & Webmaster - Daytona has created "The Traveling HOG Chronicles" and if you'd like, you can send your stories and pictures to her to add to the newsletter, attached below.  This makes it much easier for everyone to get to see his majesty's pictures, since he's so insistent on becoming even more famous than he thinks he already is!

  7. The trophy and log book will be turned over at each drawing to the new winner.

  8. Winning of the competition will be based upon the drawing of a ticket.  Tickets will be obtained in the following manner:

    • One ticked issued for every one (1) to nine (9) valid chapter members present, two (2) for 10, three (3) for fifteen, etc.

    • Chapter members can only sign in for one chapter

    • Signing in will be on the Honor System

    • The hosting chapter is NOT eligible for that month’s competition

  1. If the sponsoring chapter has other chapter obligations, then one member of that chapter needs to be designated to be ready to run the competition and turn over the Traveling Hog to the winner.

  2. The winning chapter must announce the time and place (should it not be at its dealership) no later than one week after winning the traveling HOG.

  3. It is expected that the hosting chapter will also conduct a 50/50 drawing with 50% of the proceeds being retained by the hosting chapter.

  4. All National HOG rules that pertain to conducting a HOG event apply at the competition, up to the time that the next winner of the Traveling HOG is announced.

  5. The Daytona chapter will continue to be the overall administrator of the central Florida Traveling HOG program.

  6. Chapters considered to be members/participants of the central Florida HOG chapters include the following chapters:  Clermont, Crystal River, Daytona, Lake County, Ocala, Orlando, Seminole County, and Space Coast.

  7. If for some reason there is no winner at a competition, the chapter in possession of the traveling HOG retains it until the next month’s competition.

***NOTE:  Bike or CAR - you still get credit for the ride (since we do live in the hurricane, I mean sunshine state)!

THE TRAVELING HOG CHRONICLES

As told by Mr. Bacon to various chapter members, while he stays with them

Since some of the chapters' members aren't familiar with me, Mr. Bacon, I wanted to be available online so everyone knows where I've been and what I'm up to.  So I sat Lea  down and started dictating my life history.  It's nowhere near complete  - but I want to get it out there so you can start reading about me.

The Chronicles are in Adobe Reader pdf format and easy to ready - but it's a large file.  Rather than increase the size of the file, there will be subsequent issues. Hope you enjoy it as much as I think you will.

You might want to check back occasionally because it will hopefully be updated from the beginning of my life - as I get others to tell their stories to Lea.  You know what they say, "there's a million stories in the city, and mine is one of them".
